Friends of the Seymour Public Library

The friends are a growing, non-profit volunteer organization which believe in the importance of books and libraries for people of all ages. Over the years, and through this group's efforts, the library has been able to obtain much-needed materials, furniture and equipment that would otherwise be impossible to obtain.

The organization and its slate of officers meet at the library on a regular basis to plan and organize fund-raising activities and yearly events. For more information about membership or cooperation, contact the library at 888-3903.

DONATIONS

The library will occasionally accept books and other materials as donations or gifts from the public. The library cannot, however, appraise said gifts or donations for tax purposes. Depending on the nature and condition, materials worthwhile and of informational or recreational value, will be kept for incorporation into the library's collection. Items which cannot be used will be sold or permanently withdrawn. Please call before bringing your used books to the library as our storage space is limited.

COMPUTERS FOR PUBLIC USE

The Library currently offers Internet Access and word processing.

MEETING ROOMS

There are 2 meeting rooms available to civic and non-profit organizations.  The large meeting room holds 90 people and the smaller meeting room holds 45.   Applications are available at the library and are processed  on a first come, first serve basis.

POLICY FOR UNATTENDED CHILDREN AFTER HOURS

Parents are expected to be aware of the closing times of the library, bearing in mind that these can and do change.  Power failures can occur and require unexpected evacuations.  Children left alone on library grounds could be vulnerable.  Every effort will be made to contact parents prior to closing.

If the child is left alone at the library after closing time two staff members will remain with the child for one half hour.  During this time every effort will be made to contact the parents.  Parent or guardian must show identification and sign a waiver form before children will be released to them.  If one half hour elapses with no success in finding someone to pick up the child, the police will be called. Library staff, under no circumstances, will offer to drive the child home.  In accordance with Connecticut State Law, children under the age of 12 should have a parent or responsible family or caregiver available in the building while the child is using the library.
